The History of the Laramie County Trauma Conference

In 2013, when Ann Beckle was no longer able to organize the Bare Bones Trauma Conference due to health concerns, Rob Johnson and Dan Bond recognized the continued need for high-quality EMS education in the region. Determined to preserve the spirit and mission of Bare Bones, they partnered to ensure that EMS providers throughout Wyoming, Northern Colorado, and the surrounding areas would continue to have access to valuable continuing education opportunities.

In 2013 and 2014, American Medical Response (AMR) hosted trauma conferences inspired by the Bare Bones model. Following the 2014 conference, AMR was no longer able to continue organizing the event and approached Dan and Rob about carrying the tradition forward.

With the support of Laramie County Community College (LCCC) and its EMS Program, Dan and Rob launched the first Laramie County Trauma Conference in 2015. The inaugural conference welcomed approximately 15 attendees. Since then, the conference has experienced steady growth, becoming a respected educational event for EMS professionals throughout the region. Even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the conference drew more than 60 participants.

Today, the Laramie County Trauma Conference is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the State of Wyoming. The conference is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors consisting of Rob Johnson, Dan Bond, Tracy Causey, and Tony Perry, all of whom remain committed to providing affordable, high-quality continuing education for emergency medical professionals.

As we celebrate our 12th year, we reflect with pride on how far the conference has come and express our gratitude to the instructors, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees who have made this success possible. What began as a small conference serving approximately 15 attendees has grown into a valued educational event that continues to support EMS professionals throughout the region.

We look forward to welcoming returning participants and meeting new attendees each year as we continue our mission of advancing EMS education, improving patient care, and fostering professional development.

If you are interested in volunteering, sponsoring, teaching, or otherwise supporting the conference, we encourage you to contact us. We would be honored to have you join us in continuing this important tradition.

About The Event Organizers

Rob Johnson

I began my EMS career in 2003 after completing the EMT course in Albin, Wyoming. During that time, I was also undergoing treatment for cancer, an experience that strengthened my determination and commitment to helping others.

After becoming certified, I joined American Medical Response (AMR), where I worked as both an EMT-Basic and I EMT. During my time with AMR, I served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) instructor, and the OSHA Workers’ Compensation Officer. These roles allowed me to mentor new providers, promote workplace safety, and contribute to the professional development of EMS personnel.

Following my career with AMR, I worked at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, assisting a physician specializing in geriatric medicine. This experience broadened my understanding of patient care and the unique needs of the elderly population.

Today, I am retired and enjoy spending time outdoors camping and fishing. I currently share many of my adventures with my white German Shepherd, Alfredo, who is my constant companion on the trail and by the water.

Tony Perry

Tony is a Wyoming native, born in Sheridan and raised in Cheyenne. He currently resides in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, with his wife, Candice, and their three children, Soriah, Aiden, and Aspen.

Tony works full-time in the healthcare field as a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). His dedication to patient care extends beyond his professional career and into his longstanding commitment to emergency medical services.

Tony served as the Ambulance Director for Pine Bluffs EMS for one year and volunteered as an EMT with the service for five years. His passion for rural EMS continues through his involvement with Albin Rescue EMS, where he helps support emergency medical care in Wyoming’s rural communities.

In addition to his EMS experience, Tony served as a volunteer firefighter with Laramie County Fire District #5 for six years. He currently serves with Laramie County Fire District #6 as the EMS Coordinator, helping oversee and support EMS operations within the district.

Committed to public education and community preparedness, Tony is an American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Instructor and serves on the Wyoming AHA State Advocacy Committee. Through this role, he promotes CPR and AED awareness and has traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for the HEARTS Act and other initiatives that improve cardiac emergency preparedness.

Tony is also a Stop the Bleed Instructor and is pursuing certification as an AVERT Instructor. His commitment to professional development and lifelong learning drives him to continually expand his knowledge and skills to better serve the communities he supports.

Passionate about EMS, rural healthcare, and education, Tony became a Wyoming EMS Coordinator, allowing him to teach Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses throughout the state. He believes strongly in developing the next generation of EMS providers and improving access to quality emergency care in rural areas.

Tony is proud and honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the Laramie County Trauma Conference, where he helps support the organization’s mission of providing high-quality continuing education for EMS professionals throughout the region.

Dan Bond

Dan has been a certified EMT since 2000 and has dedicated more than two decades to emergency medical services and public safety.

He began his EMS career as a volunteer with Laramie County Fire District #8, where he progressed through the ranks, serving as EMS Captain, Assistant Chief, and ultimately Chief. Throughout his tenure, Dan played an active role in advancing EMS services and supporting the health and safety of his community.

In 2008, Dan transitioned into hospital-based emergency care, accepting a position as an Emergency Room Technician at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. His experience in both prehospital and hospital settings has provided him with a broad perspective on emergency medicine and patient care.

Dan is also a co-founder of the Laramie County Trauma Conference and has been instrumental in its growth and success. He remains committed to advancing EMS education and helping providers throughout the region maintain and expand their clinical knowledge and skills.

Today, Dan resides in the scenic Poudre Canyon west of Fort Collins, Colorado, where he continues his commitment to public service as a volunteer member of the Poudre Canyon Volunteer Fire Department.
